TIPS covers Pamulinawen Festival

It was another year of the Pamulinawen Festival. It is now on its 15th year. It is a thanksgiving celebrated by the city of Laoag in honor of her patron St. William the Hermit. It has been a tradition now of the members of The Ilocandia Photographic Society (TIPS) to attend and cover the said festival. Most of TIPSters were there to cover and enjoy the event. They even met some other hobbyist photographers and the kid photographers.

Again, the different municipalities of Ilocos Norte, different institutions in Laoag City and including guest competing groups such as Santa Maria from Ilocos Sur have participated in the Street Pageantry. They competed with each other for the much coveted plum prize of Php100,000.

After the showdown, the board of judges came up with the final results that everyone has waited for. The 3rd place went to La Paz School of Fisheries and 2nd place went to the Holy Spirit School. For just a .17 points difference to the 2nd place Ilocos Norte National High School is victorious in taking home the big prize and the first place.

A Photowalk by TIPS

When the itch to click the shutter button sets in, no one can prevent TIPsters to go on a shoot. A photowalk was recently conducted during the festival season. The location of the shoot was under the Laoag bridge. The participants captured the golden sunset from the area and they later move on to take shots of the festival carnival.

This photo shoot was called by Alaric Yanos and was attended by Raffy Pasalo, Dr. Edwin Antonio, Ferr Prudente and guest photographer Nitson Itliong.

TIPS holds Punganay ti Kannawidan Exhibit

The Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur and The Ilocandia Photographic Society (TIPS) held a photography exhibit entitled Punganay ti Kannawidan or Origins of Traditions in celebration of the Kannawidan Ylocos Festival 2011. This was an exhibit that featured Ilocos Sur’s treasured heritage, landscape and culture.

A total of 40 canvass photos were showcased during the exhibit held at the Archbishop’s Palace in the Heritage City of Vigan on February 1-6, 2011. All of the official members participated in this exhibit featuring their collections of photographic artworks depicting Ilocos Sur. The exhibit also included the special participation of the member applicants of TIPS.

The launching was attended by artists, members of the church and the community and the media. Vice-Governor DV Savellano untied the ceremonial ribbon to formally open the exhibit. This was held back to back with the Colonial Ylocos Sur photo exhibit that featured the old photos from 1890s to 1950s.

TIPS selects Ms Photogenic in Saniata 2011

The provincial government of Ilocos Sur as represented by its Tourism Office invited the members of The Ilocandia Photographic Society (TIPS) on January 30, 2011 for a one day pictorial of the candidates of the Saniata ti Ilocos Sur 2011. It was held at the Cabugao Beach Resort in the town of Cabugao Ilocos Sur.

The purpose of this shoot was to choose the Ms Photogenic for Saniata ti Ilocos Sur 2011. There were 25 candidates who competed with each other for the title. All clad in casual wear, they went under studio shoot and outdoor shoot. The lovely candidates posed here and there. Some of them are professional models and some are neophytes. Some speaks Ilocano and some does not. The requirement for a candidate must have their roots in Ilocos or a bloodline of Ilocano.

After the shoot at the same day, members converged and evaluated the photos of each candidate. After an intensive deliberation by the group, they arrived at a winner of Ms Photogenic and it was kept a secret until the pageant night.

A video was prepared and presented by TIPSter Bryan Rapadas showcasing the best shots of the candidates. It was shown on the pageant night and the winner was revealed. Jha Flores is Ms Photogenic for Saniata ti Ilocos Sur 2011.
