Paoay Lake in Infrared: An art photograph on canvas sold

An art photograph on canvas entitled “Paoay Lake in infrared” by Lorna Tolentino-Macatulad was purchased by no less than the Honorable Bonifacio C. Clemente, mayor of the municipality of Paoay. He was fascinated by the photos exhibited by the members of The Ilocandia Photographic Society (TIPS) during the Rubuatan Exhibit. However, he had been mainly attracted to the Paoay Lake photograph. He personally bought this art photo to adorn his home.

Paoay Lake is a legendary lake. It is one of the prominent features of Paoay town. Legend says that the lake area was a sunken village and when fishermen go into the deep they see shadows of houses. It was also told that the fish they catch, believed to be inhabitants of the ill-fated village, were adorned with jewels. On its shores is a monumental building called Malacanang ti Amianan built during the Marcos regime.

The said photograph was shot in an IR form on December 2010 by Lorna Macatulad. They were then on a pre-nuptial pictorial when this beautiful sight of Paoay Lake with the element of fisherman on the scene captivated her hence, she clicked her shutter button.

TIPS adopts Pecha Kucha

On the very first general assembly meeting of The Ilocandia Photographic Society (TIPS) on its year 3, a pecha kucha was conducted among the members of the group.

Pecha kucha is a presentation methodology to organize the presentation order of an event. An example of event was the Pecha Kucha Night. This was devised in 2003 in Roponggi Tokyo. It was an architectural design presentation where a dozen presenters got to do a talk with a 20 slides by 20 seconds. It takes a total of 6 minutes 40 seconds per presentation.

This event was conceived as a venue for young designers to network, meet, show their work, exchange ideas and present their work on a fast paced, concise and entertaining manner.

TIPS has seen this methodology to be effective in presenting their photographic works to the group and thereby will make the presentations short and sweet.

Most of the pecha kucha presentation mainly delved on the Cuaresma Fotografia and other recent photographs of the TIPS members. The pecha kucha was held at the private function of the La Moda Panciteria in Laoag City.

TIPS unveils photos for Talugading Photo Exhibit

The Ilocandia Photographic Society (TIPS) has unveiled its photos for the Talugading: Ilocos Sur At Its Best exhibit. Vice Mayor Ryan Luis Singson of Vigan City assisted by Dr. Edwin Antonio, president of TIPS formally opened the exhibit by untying the ribbon.

Vice Mayor Singson was impressed by the photos exhibited by the members of the group and praised the art pieces. He said that he has also interest in photography. Dr. Antonio has asked the support of the vice mayor for a possible future exhibits in places other than Ilocos Sur and he said yes.

TIPS members present during the opening were Dr. Bobby Luzod, Michael Ong, Edwin Tangonan, James Ong, Gem Paula Lucero, Dr. Joy Lazaro and Bryan Rapadas.

TIPS opens Talugading Photo Exhibit

The Ilocandia Photographic Society (TIPS) will be holding a photography exhibit entitled "Talugading: Ilocos Sur At It’s Best".

It will be featuring the treasured heritage, landscape and culture of the province of Ilocos Sur. It will be launched on April 20, 2011 at 10AM at Baluarte in the Heritage City of Vigan. For further details please call Mr. Alaric Yanos at 09175682416.

Sitio Remedios: An art photograph on canvas sold

An art photograph on canvas entitled Sitio Remedios by Dr. Robert Luzod was bought by Dr. Jovencio Cuanang of St. Luke’s Medical Center. Dr. Cuanang is an art patron who maintains two art galleries namely Boston Gallery in Manila and Pinto Art Gallery in Rizal. He has big passion for collecting art pieces especially paintings and now he has artwork in the form of photograph to add to his collection.

Tipster Dr. Robert was fascinated by the architecture of the place and had fun shooting the arches of one of the buildings. The photograph was taken in the year 2010 when he and his colleagues underwent a painting workshop at the resort called Sitio Remedios. This resort by the China Sea located in the town of Curimao in Ilocos Norte is owned by Dr Cuanang himself. The said photograph is now displayed at one of the villas in the resort.

Lola Ingga’s Tapuey: An art photograph on canvas sold

An art photograph on canvas entitled Lola Ingga’s Tapuey by Bryan Rapadas was purchased by no less than the Honorable Imee Marcos, Governor of Ilocos Norte. The governor has been staunchly promoting the arts and culture of the province and that she wanted these art pieces be showcased in her humble office. This particular canvas photograph is now strategically hanging in the wall of the governor’s office.

Lola Ingga, an old woman, is a veteran in making the rice wine called tapuey. The members of The Ilocandia Photographic Society (TIPS) were invited in the year 2010 in the town of Adams to shoot its tourism sites. One of the town’s attractions is the making and drinking of tapuey. Lola Ingga demonstrated the procedures in making the said wine and offered each of her guests to drink her product. After which a photograph session was conducted and TIPSter Bryan did a good portrait of her with her burnay or jars on her side.

TIPS elects new set of officers

The Ilocandia Photographic Society (TIPS) has recently celebrated its 2nd year anniversary and a new set of officers was elected to function for a one year term.
