TIPS attends Looking for Johnny Moon workshop

They call Johnny Moon as the postmodern incarnation of the world renowned painter and the beloved son of Ilocos Norte Juan Luna. It is the renaissance of the Ilocano genius in the new millennium. It is the dawning of a new breed of Johnny Moon who will blend innovative art in the digital world.

The said seminar workshop aimed to find Johnny Moon among the participants who might rock the current perceptions of art. Members of the The Ilocandia Photographic Society (TIPS)did not pass this opportunity for the search of Johnny Moon.

TIPSters Bryan Rapadas, Alaric Yanos, Andie Lamug, Ronald Macatulad, Michael Ong and Lorna Tolentino-Macatulad participated the seminar-workshop Looking for Johnny Moon, the very first Ilocos Digital Arts Festival on July 14-16, 2011 at the Plaza Del Norte.

There were lectures on cinematography, scriptwriting, film directing, film editing with special effects, animation, game development and digital photography. There was also screening of independent films by Directors Soxie Topacio, Lee Meily, Danny Añonuevo, Mark Meily. A workshop on tours were held in Currimao, Paoay Lake, Batac, Malacanang of the North, Sand Dunes, Burgos Light House, Windmill in Bangui, Kapurpurawan in Burgos, and Laoag City.

TIPS re-elects for vacant posts

Due to the resignation of two officers from The Ilocandia Photographic Society (TIPS), the group convened and elected the replacement for the posts of Secretary and Auditor on July 01, 2011. Dr. Joy Lazaro was elected as the Secretary and Lorna Tolentino-Macatulad was elected as the Auditor.

Dancers Among Us: A Photo Op by TIPS

A fun shoot was recently conducted by The Ilocandia Photographic Society (TIPS)dubbed as Dancers Among Us. The group has contacted the dance members of the Saguday Cultural Troupe to act as models for the said project shoot.

The dancers who participated in this shoot event were Eugene, Mark, Gladys and Cheryl. With their grace, agility and flexibility, they posed with their dance moves in the midst of people in public places. The shoot was done in the provincial capitol, streets and public market of Laoag City and 365 Plaza and Robinson's Mall in San Nicolas Ilocos Norte.

11 members from the TIPs group participated in this fun shoot namely, Bryan Rapadas, Ronald Macatulad, Michael Ong, Lorna Tolentino-Macatulad, Dr. Joy Lazaro, Carlito Villamarin, Archi. Joseph Reginaldo, James Ragus, Raffy Pasalo, Dr. Edwin Antonio, and Andie Lamug. Everyone enjoyed the shoot. The dancer models have said that a dream come true for them to pose in the public getting their attention. Truly this is another one of a kind project shoot.

TIPS holds Retrato Photo Exhibition

The Ilocandia Photographic Society (TIPS) held a photography exhibit entitled Retrato.

The said exhibit featured the lovely images of the Ilocandia's treasured heritage, culture and landscape. It was launched on May 27, 2011 and lasted until May 29, 2011 at St. Nicks Function Hall in the town of San Nicolas Ilocos Norte.

This exhibit was held in time for the TMI (Timpuyog Dagiti Mannurat Iti Iluko) Iluko Literary International Conference 2011 which was attended by delegates from Nueva Vizcaya, Isabela, La Union, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, California, Canada, Australia and Hawaii especially University of Hawaii.

The exhibit was formally opened by Dr. Dedicacion Agatep-Reyes, wife of the Iluko literary icon Dr. Godofredo Reyes and Mr. Peter Julian, Bukaneg awardee. They opened it by unique way of untying the riboon.

Dr Edwin V. Antonio, president of The Ilocandia Photographic Society was there to introduce the photo exhibit and his group TIPS to the delegation. They were amazed to see the photographs printed on canvas. They appreciated very much the show and some of the prints were sold on the very first day.

Paoay Lake in Infrared: An art photograph on canvas sold

An art photograph on canvas entitled “Paoay Lake in infrared” by Lorna Tolentino-Macatulad was purchased by no less than the Honorable Bonifacio C. Clemente, mayor of the municipality of Paoay. He was fascinated by the photos exhibited by the members of The Ilocandia Photographic Society (TIPS) during the Rubuatan Exhibit. However, he had been mainly attracted to the Paoay Lake photograph. He personally bought this art photo to adorn his home.

Paoay Lake is a legendary lake. It is one of the prominent features of Paoay town. Legend says that the lake area was a sunken village and when fishermen go into the deep they see shadows of houses. It was also told that the fish they catch, believed to be inhabitants of the ill-fated village, were adorned with jewels. On its shores is a monumental building called Malacanang ti Amianan built during the Marcos regime.

The said photograph was shot in an IR form on December 2010 by Lorna Macatulad. They were then on a pre-nuptial pictorial when this beautiful sight of Paoay Lake with the element of fisherman on the scene captivated her hence, she clicked her shutter button.

TIPS adopts Pecha Kucha

On the very first general assembly meeting of The Ilocandia Photographic Society (TIPS) on its year 3, a pecha kucha was conducted among the members of the group.

Pecha kucha is a presentation methodology to organize the presentation order of an event. An example of event was the Pecha Kucha Night. This was devised in 2003 in Roponggi Tokyo. It was an architectural design presentation where a dozen presenters got to do a talk with a 20 slides by 20 seconds. It takes a total of 6 minutes 40 seconds per presentation.

This event was conceived as a venue for young designers to network, meet, show their work, exchange ideas and present their work on a fast paced, concise and entertaining manner.

TIPS has seen this methodology to be effective in presenting their photographic works to the group and thereby will make the presentations short and sweet.

Most of the pecha kucha presentation mainly delved on the Cuaresma Fotografia and other recent photographs of the TIPS members. The pecha kucha was held at the private function of the La Moda Panciteria in Laoag City.

TIPS unveils photos for Talugading Photo Exhibit

The Ilocandia Photographic Society (TIPS) has unveiled its photos for the Talugading: Ilocos Sur At Its Best exhibit. Vice Mayor Ryan Luis Singson of Vigan City assisted by Dr. Edwin Antonio, president of TIPS formally opened the exhibit by untying the ribbon.

Vice Mayor Singson was impressed by the photos exhibited by the members of the group and praised the art pieces. He said that he has also interest in photography. Dr. Antonio has asked the support of the vice mayor for a possible future exhibits in places other than Ilocos Sur and he said yes.

TIPS members present during the opening were Dr. Bobby Luzod, Michael Ong, Edwin Tangonan, James Ong, Gem Paula Lucero, Dr. Joy Lazaro and Bryan Rapadas.
