TIPS conducts Practical Photography Workshop for Doctors

As per popular request of the members of the Ilocos Norte Medical Society (INMS) to undergo a workshop and pursue their interest on photography, Dr. Gretchen Ranada, INMS president proposed a joint project to The Ilocandia Photographic Society (TIPS) through Dr. Robert Luzod to conduct Practical Photography Workshop.

The workshop was held at Luzod’s residence in Batac, Ilocos Norte on July 23-24, 2011. It was a two-day workshop that includes lectures on basic photography, one-on-one tutorials, photo walk, model shoot and photo critiquing.

On day one, the workshop was started with a photowalk at the Ricarte Park. It was an open shoot by the participants accompanied by TIPS members.

Doctors Jonathan Noble, Rosemarie Garganta, Remedios Marcos, Maritess Padaca, Gloria Soriano-Pasion, Lorna Mignon Canete, Lerma Fe Taylan, Francisco Ranada III, Ja Malvar, Liza Marie Paz-Tan, Gretchen Ranada, Celina Ferraris, Adonis Avila, Miramar Bumanglag, and Leodelyn Cuevas, together with other representatives Imelin Cristobal, Laila Blanca Mabanag, and Dennis Magpily attended the workshop.

Dr. Edwin Antonio, TIPS president opened the program by introducing his team The Ilocandia Photographic Society (TIPS) and welcomed the participants. The course was later introduced by Dr. Luzod and requested each member to introduce and say something about their background on photography.

The topic, parts and functions of a camera was discussed by Ronald Macatulad. He also defined some photographic terminologies. It was followed by Michael Ong’s lecture on proper handling of camera, correct posture, and things needed for a shoot.

Lito Villamarin tackled lenses, perspective and depth of field. F-stop, aperture, shutter speed, ISO and on cam light metering was lectured by Dr. Jose Orosa III. Drills and exercises were performed on a one-on-one basis. Photo critiquing was conducted after collecting the outputs from the participants.

On day two, Alaric Yanos discussed 10 ways to better composition of photographs and the use of filters. Introduction to basic post processing was tackled by Andie Lamug and Bryan Rapadas.

On the last session, the participants were divided into two groups for the model shoot. It was where they applied the theories they learned from the lectures with assistance and supervision from TIPS members.

The participants were happy with the workshop and they were asking for the next one. The program was ended with the awarding of certificates of participation by Dr Antonio, TIPS president and Dr. Joy Lazaro, TIPS secretary.
